Wonderful card from the Suzhou Street - Summer Palace in Beijing.

The card was sent by nixil. Nixil wrote: "Suzhou is famous for its Private Gardens and always regard as the Oriental Venice. It's so beautiful. I love my hometown :)"

I'm sure that i already got cards from the Summer Palace in Beijing, but you know me and my mess :) I think it's time to reorder my postcard collection this winter!

The Summer Palace in Beijing – first built in 1750, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886 – is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.

The Universal Postal Union is an international organization that coordinates postal policies among member nations, and hence the worldwide postal system. Each member country agrees to the same set of terms for conducting international postal duties. The Universal Postal Union's headquarters are located in Bern, Switzerland.

Also the UPU Monument which was built on the 4th of october 1909 - the day of my birthday - sure i'm not as old as this monument :) In the UPU Monument (Weltpostdenkmal) in Bern, bronze and granite, by René de Saint-Marceaux, the five continents join to transmit messages around the globe

many countries has stamp issues with the monuiment as motiv.

Last year i.e. Switzerland had a joint issue with France.

Today i have China Day! All cards i got today (10!) are from China.

This one was sending by king and shows the old town called Chongqin in the big city Zongshan Town which has over 1 Mio Inhabitants. For me this is unbelievable! 1 Mio peops in one town. more than 700 inh. per km2 - ooo my god! Bern, where i'm living, has 2,5 :) And i just checked: No city in Switzerland has more than 12 inh. per km2!

#204 - CHINA - mr.shi

mr. shi sent me this wonderful card which was since a long time on my top favorites! The card shows the UNESCO world heritage site Wulingyuan Area.

A spectacular area stretching over more than 26,000 ha in China's Hunan Province, the site is dominated by more than 3,000 narrow sandstone pillars and peaks, many over 200 m high. Between the peaks lie ravines and gorges with streams, pools and waterfalls, some 40 caves, and two large natural bridges. In addition to the striking beauty of the landscape, the region is also noted for the fact that it is home to a number of endangered plant and animal species.http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/640

As longer as i'm getting ivolved in this Postcrossing thing (more than 3 years now) i'm more and more interested in those UNESCO sites. But i know me - i wouldn't be a good collectioner since the time is running away for things like this. And i received so many cards in the couple of years - i wouldn't be able to check them all if they are showing a UNESCo related site. So does it makes sense to start as an advanced in years postcrosser? We will see - but for now a label called UNESCO have to suffice!

Xinlun sent me a wonderful card from the UNESCO site Mt. Wudang. And used wonderful New Year stamps!

The palaces and temples which form the nucleus of this group of secular and religious buildings exemplify the architectural and artistic achievements of China's Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Situated in the scenic valleys and on the slopes of the Wudang mountains in Hubei Province, the site, which was built as an organized complex during the Ming dynasty (14th–17th centuries), contains Taoist buildings from as early as the 7th century. A wonderful green card!

It shows a UNESCO HEritages in China - the Mt. Taishan.

The sacred Mount Tai ('shan' means 'mountain') was the object of an imperial cult for nearly 2,000 years, and the artistic masterpieces found there are in perfect harmony with the natural landscape. Wang Jia Taiyuan is the master of the Qing Dynasty residential construction, from the history of Lingshi County Sidajiazu Wang Taiyuan, one of the descendants - static or Wang Yu Qing Emperor Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong and Jiaqing years has built. Building large-scale, with "Wu Xiang", "Five Fort," "Five ancestral hall." Among them, five castles of the layout of the compound were known as the "dragon", "phoenix", "turtle", "CHU", "tiger" five Ruishou modeling, a total area of 250,000 square meters and above. Haomin sent me an interesting view of the temple ... For me it's everyday a special view because we don't have such temples in Europa. Ar our Churches the Western Temples? Or can i compare those manifique temples with our castles? I don't think so - a temple is a religous building. castels are just symbols of monarchy - no? i'm not shure at all. the only thing i know is that i was really imperessed last year in japan as i saw all thos different temples.
